Himanta Sarma meets with Ratan Tata, Expresses Gratitude for “Transformative Investment.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude during his meeting with industrialist Ratan Tata in New Delhi on Wednesday. Sarma thanked Tata for his commitment to establish a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor plant in Assam. Following discussions with Ratan Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran in Mumbai, Sarma highlighted the significance of the upcoming Tata semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad.
- He emphasized that this endeavor would not only place Assam on the global semiconductor map but also revolutionize the economic landscape of East India.
- Sarma conveyed the appreciation of the people of Assam to Ratan Tata and N Chandrasekaran for their unwavering confidence in the state to undertake this transformative investment.
- He expressed optimism regarding the commencement of chip production by 2025. Sarma shared these sentiments on X along with pictures from his meeting with Ratan Tata and N Chandrasekaran.
During the meeting, Mr Sarma also discussed creating a Skill Development Centre that will be co-located within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Morigaon’s Jagiroad.
Mr. Sarma also emphasized that the Skill Development Centre aims to empower youth from the North East by providing courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, ultimately assisting them in securing employment opportunities within the Jagiroad unit.
He mentioned that 1,500 youth from Assam, predominantly women, are currently undergoing training at Tata facilities in and around Bangalore. This preparation will position them for leadership roles once the semiconductor facility becomes operational in 2025.
